Legendary Entertainment Names Deborah Kaufman Vice President, Literary Affairs
Burbank, CA – October 6, 2014 – Legendary Entertainment has appointed accomplished publishing and literary executive Deborah Kaufmann as Vice President, Literary Affairs. Kaufmann will be based in New York City and will evaluate and pursue book adaptation opportunities for Legendary’s film, television and digital divisions. She will report to Legendary’s EVP of Creative Affairs, Alex Garcia, and EVP of Scripted Development, Peter Johnson.
In a joint statement, Garcia and Johnson said, “We are excited to have Deborah join the Legendary team. Her expertise and nuanced understanding of the literary world will allow us to bolster our upcoming slate of productions with adaptations of even more creative adventures our fans will enjoy across multiple platforms.”
Kaufmann joins Legendary from renowned Paris-based book publisher Calmann-Lévy (a Hachette company) where she served as Senior Editor overseeing a diverse slate of genres including literary fiction, non-fiction, suspense, crime, thriller, science fiction and fantasy. Kaufmann was also the Head of Orbit France, a science fiction and fantasy specialty imprint. Prior to Calmann-Lévy, Kaufmann was the Chief Foreign Acquisitions Editor at Editons Michel Lafon where she created the Michel Lafon foreign acquisitions department, with an emphasis in acquiring English language best sellers. During her tenure she acquired and edited over 100 best-selling books including several Ann Rice novels, Jeff Lindsay’s Dexter series as well as the global sensation The Time Traveler‘s Wife. Throughout her career Kaufmann has worked with award winning authors including Malala Yousafzai, Howard Jacobson, Tea Obreht, Tana French and Elizabeth Gilbert.

Kaufmann studied Communications & Journalism and Jewish History at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in Israel, and holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from the Université Paris VII Jussieu. She is a Fellow of the Jerusalem Book Fair.
